It was a little chilly and rainy here, so for the most part Blake and I had a lazy weekend inside.  We cooked, watched House of Cards, and left all the windows open to hear the rain.  But by last night we were feeling restless, and I was dying to be outside and active.  When we lived in Utah, we would always just drive up a canyon and start hiking, but here in Orange County it’s not so easy to escape.  Blake and I both miss that feeling of being OUTSIDE…like outside where there aren’t shopping centers and freeways in plain site.

So we did a little digging (aka a Google search), and discovered Bommer Canyon.  It’s tucked away in Irvine, and I almost couldn’t hear the freeway back there ;).  The trails are great for hiking, running, and biking, and there are several trail options of varying distances.  While I’m still not sure if it classified as the kind of “hike” we are used to, it was so great to be outside, breathing fresh air and moving.  I was happy Blake brought his camera, because I didn’t expect it to be so green and beautiful!  I loved it because it reminded me of home (the Pacific Northwest).  It’s funny to me that I can be in such an amazing place, but still appreciate so much the little nostalgic reminders of what used to be.

We had just eaten dinner with our good friend Bronson, so we convinced him to come with us, too.  He grew up in Utah with Blake, so he wasn’t too convinced we were actually “hiking,” but definitely loved how beautiful it was ;).Bommer Canyon - Palms to PinesBommer Canyon - Palms to PinesBommer Canyon - Palms to Pines

Happy trails ;).
