Here’s my advice about maternity photos: just do them. Even if you think they are cheesy, or if you don’t love your body, or you don’t know what to wear. I was debating on whether or not to do them, and we decided to just because we were up at Sundance (where Blake grew up and where we got married). The beauty of Sundance and it’s significance to us convinced me. I was admitted to the hospital right when we got home from Sundance, so now that we no longer have the option of maternity photos I’m so glad we did it.
Don’t Think About it Too Much
Another piece of advice – don’t overthink them! Pick a place you love, whether that’s a special hike or park you’ll take your kid on someday, or the comfort of your home. And don’t stress too much about what to wear. If you’re having a hard time, go for your favorite t-shirt you’ve been wearing your whole pregnancy. I purposely didn’t even try to tell Blake what to wear this time, and it was better to have him in something he is comfortable in that he wears everyday anyways. As for me, I wore this amazing Fillyboo dress that I’d been saving just in case we did do photos – I was obsessed with the two little hearts positioned over the twins’ little hearts.
And last piece of advice – find a photographer whose already done maternity photos you love. This way you can be confident that they’ll know how to position and direct you in a non-cheesy way ;). Or a cheesy way, if that’s what you’re into! Ha! We decided to go with Courtney of Courtney G. Photos (recommended to us by Emmy Lowe – thank you Emmy!) and she was so great. We shot for an easy hour, she had great direction, and then had a great turnaround time for the photos. And her style of shooting/editing was just what I wanted.
Hope that helps if you are like me, trying to decide if you’ll do them or not! Here are a few of ours that I love:
