Last week while we were home (well, my home) in the Pacific Northwest, my Mom took us all on one of her favorite hikes, to Poo Poo Point. Poo Poo Point is a peak on the west side of Tiger Mountain, with an amazing view of Issaquah, Lake Sammamish, and Bellevue with a bit of Seattle if you look hard enough ;). My mom told us that the name Poo Poo Point came from the sound of the steam engines whistling back in the days that they used to log there. The coolest part for us was watching the paragliders take off – there’s a launch pad at Poo Poo Point that they use and we were lucky enough to see lots the day we went! I definitely want to try paragliding there as soon as I’m not pregnant.

My brothers dog Chesney – how beautiful is he?!

My mom made us lunches to pack for the top and that was necessary – we were all starving by the time we got there! Definitely pack food and water for this hike – its fun to picnic at the top!

And speaking of being pregnant, I have to admit that the hike was a liiiiittle tough for me just towards the end, being 21 weeks pregnant with twins and all ;). Unless you are already a super avid hiker, I wouldn’t recommend doing it that pregnant. It was also a little tough for my 4-year-old niece, so that gave the guys an extra workout taking turns carrying her! Everybody else worked up a sweat but was fine getting to the top! It’s 7.2 miles round-trip and about an 1800 ft. gain in elevation. If I wasn’t so pregnant, I would have thought it was the perfect day hike! And you can see from the pictures – it’s soooo pretty…

Insider tip – there is actually a shuttle that runs up and down the mountain, mostly to serve the paragliders and their gear. It’s $8 each way, and the only way to access Poo Poo Point other than hiking. Blake and I actually ended up taking it down (I slipped at the end when we were coming up and got a little spooked for the trip back down with the babies) and it was great!

If you find yourself in or near Seattle looking for a hike, do it and let me know what you think! And I especially want to hear from you if you go paragliding!! Happy trails ;).
