This past weekend, Blake and I spent a beautiful weekend together, tucked away in the mountains of Park City, Utah at the Stein Eriksen Lodge.  We skied, ate, slept, had friends and family come up to visit, and relaxed.  I loved being in the fresh mountain air, and just getting away.  Usually when we go to Utah, we are hurrying from place place, working and trying to see everyone and their Mom (like, literally we see a lot of Moms!)  This time, we decided to hide ourselves away in Park City and let whoever wanted to come to us ;).  It turned out to be a pretty perfect weekend.

First, a little bit about my experience with skiing…When I first met Blake, I resolved I would never ski with him.  From past experience, I’ve always thought really good skiers couldn’t be bothered or slowed down by a beginner – they’d be too annoyed/frustrated.  That couldn’t be further from the truth, both with Blake and his family.  They are amazing skiers – like, as good as it gets.  And they’ve been nothing but kind, encouraging, and patient with me.  And taught me so much.  Aside from setting me up with my own kit and the right equipment, Blake his family have been my personal coaches and cheerleaders.  Becky (my mother in law) always stays behind with me and gives me pointers when the boys want to go a little faster.  It’s opened up a whole new world to me, one that I thought I’d never be a part of.  I still have a long ways to go to become a great skier, but it’s so comforting to know I’ve got a great team to cheer me on!

And now about our stay at the Stein Lodge ;)…

THE STEIN ERIKSEN LODGE

The Stein Eriksen had a magic all its own that’s hard to explain, and pictures don’t really do it justice.  It’s Utah’s only Forbes five-star hotel, includes a five-star spa, and it’s been voted World’s Best Ski Hotel.  So it goes without saying that the staff and amenities are unreal.  But more important than that is the feeling you get there – it’s got this Norwegian flare to it with and old world sense that’s hard to find these days.

If I had to pick my favorite part of the Stein Lodge, it would be the amazing deck.  It looks out over the mountains and Deer Valley Resort, and you can sit by the fire and watch the sunsets, which always seem to be amazing up there!  (Also, they do s’mores every evening from 4:30-5:30…does it get any better?!)

OUR ROOM

I loved our room!  The highlights for me were the view, the steam shower, the hot tub out on the deck, the chess board, the fireplaces, and the bed that was so comfortable I never wanted to get out.

THE FOOD

The restaurant at the Stein is so good, and I love  If you’ve never experienced a Sunday Brunch there, you need to!  It’s pretty great.  Here are a few snaps from the restaurant just of the every-day breakfast that comes with your room rate, and my favorite table by the fireplace.

THE SKIING – DEER VALLEY RESORT

We were kind of too busy having fun to take many pictures skiing!  Saturday Blake’s Mom Becky and my little brother Dane came up and skied with us, and Sunday my sister Tahni and her husband Blake came.  Even with the lack of snow Utah experienced this winter (no lucky spring storms for us last weekend!) Deer Valley does such an amazing job grooming their runs that we were still able to have some fun.  And we got a tan while doing it ;).  It feels so good to ski without so many layers!  Here are a few iPhone snaps from our ski-time…nothing amazing but it had to be documented! (I’m sad we didn’t get a picture of Becky – she was there with us, too!)
